FAQs ::: Therapeutic Yoga

What is therapeutic Yoga?

Therapeutic yoga sessions are performed by a licensed yoga instructor.  Your instructor will assess your movement patterns and design a yoga program to meet your individual needs.  She will instruct you in this program in a 1 hour one-on-one private session.

What can Yoga do for me?

Yoga uses a series of poses or asanas to strengthen and stretch the body creating better range of motion. When the body can move more easily there is less or no pain. Over time the yoga poses can create improvements that can be felt throughout the day while encouraging good posture when walking, sitting, driving, working or anything else that you might do in your day. It is also a great complement to all other forms of exercise and can be targeted to support certain movements, like the twisting movements in golf or tennis.

Why private Therapeutic Yoga?

Private sessions can be exactly tailored to each person’s individual needs. If someone is looking to heal from an injury, a yoga series can be created around that. If someone is looking to improve their sports performance, yoga can be tailored to that. In a group setting, you get what you get, but one-on-one you can get the exact program that your body needs while getting a firm understanding of proper alignment and positioning. The instructor is able to modify the session to accommodate any need. Also, each client will leave with a customized DVD of their session so they can practice what they learned at home.

Why not just do weight training and stretching?

What is special about yoga is the focus on alignment and breathing. When you connect breath to movement you can develop stronger body awareness and kinesthetics-the sense of your body moving in space. This awareness will then translate into all other physical activities. Also, learning deep diaphragmatic breathing is a great way to reduce stress. The combination of breath and movement allows you to create strength, stretch safely and calm stress and anxiety. Yoga has also been shown to improve people’s sleep and normalize digestion for people with flatulence or constipation.

How can I remember my program?

If you like, we can make a digital recording of your private yoga session and give it to you on a DVD.  You would have your own, personal exercise video, starring YOU!

How much does a session cost?

A private 1 hour yoga session costs $100.  There is no additional charge for a DVD recording of your session.  DVD requests can take 24-48 hours to process.
